Do we need moral policing? - A Spiritual Perspective

The instance of Mangalore pub attack has once again ignited debate that whether there is a need moral policing.

Once a person happened to meet God. He asked Him, "O God, there is so much of hatred, violence, corruption, in the world, you are the almighty, why don’t you put check on people who are making this world a poor place to live and punish them."

God smiled, took a long pause and replied, "Human is my best creation, only he has got the power to decide his actions, and stopping a man from doing 'karma' would go against his basic nature, and doing what which is not natural is 'himsa' (violence). Anything that is applied forcefully is 'himsa', even if the intensions are good, and will boomerang back in form of 'himsa' and will make things worse."

"Then how can we make the people not to do the things that are against humanism?" asked the man.

This can happen only by making a person realize that what is good and what is bad for him, and should have enough freedom to choose his actions accordingly, and again do the 'karma', but this time it is not 'himsa' as his actions are not a result of suppression, they are just being transformed and he will now be doing it willingly, replied the God.

The message is clear, you have no right to force one to think the way you want, to act the way you want. If you are really serious for things like pub culture, then make the people aware about the harmful effects (if any) of it and let them decide, rather following the barbaric way of beating up the girls brutally.

  1. Well I think we certainly need Moral Policing as I believe there is no age of maturity, eachone of us needs neutral policing to guide us right way in life, it could be from our parents if not parents could be our religious gurus or mahatmas like Gandhi ji. But we all certainly need Moral policing to to tell us right or wrong.

We cannot expect us to be right all the way without discipline...i can't believe if any one is somuch self disciplined!!

But I am certainly against such forcefull and physical policing in whatsoever case. If it has to be it must be on mental level in terms of polite advises or suggestions!

But I'll repeat India does need Moral Policing specially in current scenario where we are on the fast track to spoil our Unique ages Oldest well defined Culture!!

  2. I don't think so.
Every human is independent to do his action and he himself has to understand it.
